Engine is the “heart” of power genset. Cummins, founded in 1919, is a global leader in power solutions for the commercial and industrial markets, headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, USA. In 1924, Cummins began production of its first independently designed direct injection engine, the F-type engine.
No.1: Chongqing Cummins
On January 25, 1981, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group (CNHTC) signed a technical agreement with Cummins, and its subsidiary Chongqing Automotive Engine Factory began producing Cummins 10~50-liter high-power diesel engines. In 1993, Cummins’ business in China continued to expand. Therefore, in October 1995, Cummins and CNHTC signed a joint venture agreement to establish Chongqing Cummins Engine Company (CCEC).
No.2: Dongfeng Cummins
In 1984, Dongfeng decided to introduce Cummins B/C series mid-power engines. On November 15, 1986, the two parties signed a technology transfer contract. On June 30, 1990, the first Cummins B-series engine successfully rolled off the production line. In 1996, Dongfeng Cummins Engine Company (DCEC) was established, with an annual production capacity of over 200,000 units today.
No.3: Xi’an Cummins
On December 16, 2005, Xi’an Cummins Engine Company (XCEC) was established and began production in August 2007. Xi’an Cummins focuses on high-end products, with the ISM11 and QSM11 series fully electronically controlled diesel engines considered flagship power solutions in Europe and the United States, and are widely used.
No.4: Futian Cummins
In 2006, Futian and Cummins began discussions. On March 26, 2008, Futian Cummins Engine Company was established, primarily producing light, medium, and heavy diesel engines. In the light commercial vehicle sector, Futian Cummins products have a high installation rate, but not so much in the heavy truck sector.
No.5: Guangxi Cummins
On June 27, 2012, Guangxi Cummins Industrial Power Company (GCIC) was established, mainly producing 6.7L and 9.3L engineering diesel engines. Since its products did not enter the commercial vehicle sector, Guangxi Cummins has a relatively low presence.
No.6: Anhui Cummins
In May 2018, Cummins acquired Navistar’s shares in JAC Navistar, officially establishing Anhui Cummins Engine Company (ACEC), with each party holding a 50% stake. The company mainly develops, produces, and sells light and medium diesel engines, with an annual production capacity of 250,000 units. The main products are E2.5/E3.0 and B4.0/B4.5 engines. On November 29 this year, Anhui Cummins also celebrated its fifth anniversary.
