This is a question most people are confused, Ternary lithium battery have higher voltage than LFP(Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, I prefer to describe things simply instead of talking about technique in tons of words!

Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) Battery:

Pros:

  1. High Safety: LiFePO4 batteries are less prone to burning or explosions, exhibiting high chemical stability, making them suitable for high-temperature environments.
  2. Long Lifespan: LiFePO4 batteries have a long cycle life, exceeding 3000-10000 cycles.
  3. Environmental Friendly: The materials used are non-toxic, making them environmentally friendly.
  4. Cold Temperature Adaptability: Performs relatively well in low-temperature environments.

Cons:

  1. Low Energy Density: Compared to ternary lithium batteries, LiFePO4 batteries have lower energy density, storing less energy.
  2. Larger Size: Due to lower energy density, LiFePO4 batteries require larger volumes to store the same amount of energy.
  3. Higher Cost: Higher manufacturing costs result in a relatively expensive price tag.

Ternary Lithium Battery:

Pros:

  1. High Energy Density: Ternary lithium batteries offer higher energy density, allowing them to store more energy in a relatively smaller volume and weight.
  2. Fast Charging: Exhibits fast charging capabilities, enabling quicker replenishment of usable energy.
  3. Relatively Lower Cost: Lower manufacturing costs result in a more economical price.

Cons:

  1. Lower Safety: Ternary lithium batteries have relatively lower safety levels, being more prone to thermal runaway in situations like overcharging, over-discharging, or high temperatures. Requires stricter management and protection measures.
  2. Shorter Lifespan: The cycle life of ternary lithium batteries is shorter compared to LiFePO4 batteries, typically around 500-2000 cycles.
  3. Poor Thermal Stability: More susceptible to overheating and safety issues in high-temperature environments.

So, depends on the featuries, Lifepo4 battery is most used for residential energy storage, higher capacity than portable generator, and Ternary Lithium Battery is better for portable generators by their High Energy Density and Fast Charging
